Paris: President Vladimir Putin of Russia spoke by phone with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, to address the migrant problem on the Belarus-EU border, as well as the situation in east Ukraine.

According to sources, Putin discussed the migration problem with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and mentioned "the exceptionally severe treatment of refugees by Polish border guards."Putin asked Belarus's and EU countries' leaders to undertake direct talks on the matter. The leaders voiced their dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in resolving the crisis in the Donbass region of east Ukraine. The large-scale drills undertaken by the United States and its partners in the Black Sea have heightened tensions between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to Putin.

"On the migration issue, Vladimir Putin informed the president that he understood the necessity to put an end to it, first and foremost out of human decency for the migrants who are being instrumentalized," the adviser said.In terms of Russia-France relations, Putin and Macron commended the regular meeting of the two countries' foreign and defence ministers on November 12 in Paris. The presidents agreed that bilateral dialogue on military-political matters should continue.
