Bhopal: The Shivraj government has now formulated a new plan for cow protection in Madhya Pradesh. Now the government is in the process of imposing cow tax (Cow Cess). The CM last Thursday directed the officials to plan to levy the tax for go-grass. Not only that, but he has also asked the voluntary organizations to give the work of development of cow-shed. During the review meeting of the Madhya Pradesh cow husbandry and livestock promotion board last Thursday, he directed the officers to give work to voluntary organizations for the development of cow-shed in the state.

He said voluntary organizations can develop cow-shed well by maintaining service. He directed to provide grants to cow-shed run by non-government voluntary organizations and to develop six cow-shed in the state as training centres. The Chief Minister directed to set up a 'Gau-Vansh Van Vihar' at Gangaivir in Jabalpur district. In the meeting, he said, 530 acres of animal husbandry department land at Gangaivir will be provided shelter to 2,000 go-vans in a systematic manner.

On the other hand, sources in the ministry said that the Kamal Nath government had constituted a committee of principal secretaries of the department of forest, revenue, health, rural development, and animal husbandry to raise funds for the opening of cow-shed while setting up of cess for rearing cows will be considered in the Cow Cabinet meeting after the in-principle consent of the Chief Minister in the Shivraj government. The authorities have formulated options for the sale of vehicles, registry and imposition of cess on liquor.
