Mahakumbh expected to generate 2 lakh crore revenue for UP

As many as 40 crore people will commence together to celebrate the World’s largest human gathering, the Prayag Mahakumbh 2025. Today morning only, nearly 50 lakh people took their first dip at the holy sangam of the Ganges, the Yamuna and the mythical Sarasvati rivers. And now it is expected that 40 crore people will visit the Mahakumbh, this is more than the population of the big countries like the USA and Russia.

The Mahakumbh 2025 which begins today will continue till February 26th. The 45 day- event will take place in an area of 4000 hectares with an allocated budget of 7000 crores. It will provide the state with a massive economic boost of Rs. 2,000,000,000,000, i.e. 2 lakh crores.

Uttar Pradesh will have a tremendous economic growth with this amount of revenue generation. According to the industry estimates, if each of the 40 crore visitors spend an average of Rs.5000 the event is likely to generate the revenue of 2 lakh crore.

The news agency IANS, further said that the average expenditure per person can even rise to Rs. 10,000 and then the economic impact might sum up to double, at 4 lakh crore. With this, the nominal and real GDP will also be given a boost of one percent.

In 2019, at the Prayagraj Ardh Kumbh mela, 24 crore pilgrims visited the event. It contributed 1.2 lakh crore to the economy. For the Mahakumbh 2025, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “With an expected turnout of 40 crore devotees this year, the Mahakumbh is projected to generate Rs 2 lakh crore in economic growth.”

The food and beverage sector alone, that includes packaged foods, biscuits, beverages, water, juices and other meals will add Rs. 20,000 crores to the trade, according to the Confederation of All India traders (CAIT). The religious items and other offerings like oil, lamps, incense sticks will account to another 20,000 crore revenue. The transport and logistics sector with all the local and interstate services will contribute Rs. 10,000 crore. In this, the tourism services have a separate Rs. 10,000 crores. The medicines and Ayurvedic sector will promote Rs. 3000 crore earning. Digital services can make up to an additional Rs. 1000 crore and the entertainment and media sector accounting to Rs. 10,000 crore.

The Mahakumbh is been described as the world’s largest temporary city that can accommodate 50 lakhs to 1 crore devotees at a given point of time. It has 1,50,000 tents to accommodate the visitors, with 3,000 kitchens, 1,45,000 restrooms and 99 parking lots. 40,000 police officers have been deployed in Prayagraj with facilities of surveillance cameras that have AI capabilities.

Taking to X today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared, “Mahakumbh 2025 commences in Prayagraj, bringing together countless people in a confluence of faith, devotion and culture. The Mahakumbh embodies India’s timeless spiritual heritage and celebrates faith and harmony.” He further added, “I am happy to see Prayagraj abuzz with countless people coming there, taking the holy dip and seeking blessings. Wishing all pilgrims and tourists a wonderful stay.”
