Jaipur: A statement made by former Rajasthan Education Minister and Congress state unit president Govind Singh Dotasra on Maharana Pratap has become a source of controversy. In fact, Dotasra, who arrived in Nagaur for the Congress' 2-day training camp, accused the BJP of doing politics in the name of Maharana Pratap. He said that the struggle between Maharana Pratap and Akbar was just a struggle for power. But the BJP and the RSS link it to the nation and religion.

Dotasra further said that the BJP men changed the syllabus and described the war between Maharana Pratap and Akbar in their Vidya Bharati schools as a religious war. There was a power struggle between the two. But the BJP sees only Hindus and Muslims in every lens. After Dotasra's statement on Maharana Pratap, the BJP has attacked him. Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia has said that Dotasra does not know that Maharana Pratap had fought for the nation. The Congress is dragging Maharana Pratap's name into political rallies unnecessarily for fear of slipping Muslim votes.

Earlier, Gobind Singh Dotasra was embroiled in controversy by making a statement on the issue of Maharana Pratap's defeat and victory in the battle of Haldighati while he was the education minister. Even before this, there has been a political controversy in Rajasthan over Maharana Pratap. Even during the Rajasthan assembly by-election, a statement made by BJP leader of the opposition Gulab Chand Kataria on Maharana Pratap was made a big election issue by the Congress.
