Mumbai: Rajya Sabha MP and former CM of the state Narayan Rane is in the news of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (23 September) after all opposition from Shiv Sena. Narayan Rane was the CM of the state from the Shiv Sena and then also the Leader of the Opposition in the House on behalf of the Shiv Sena in the state for 5 years. Rane resigned from Shiv Sena in July 2005.

At that time, the main reason for leaving Shiv Sena was said to be Rane's confrontation with the current Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. On leaving the Shiv Sena, Rane had said a lot of things behind the back of the Shiv Sena founders late Bal Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, which severed relations between the two. After leaving the Shiv Sena, Narayan Rane joined the Congress party.

Rane held several important positions in the Congress-NCP government, including Revenue Minister. But he always remained less in news than his work and more because of his statements. Once the situation got so bad that he had to go to Delhi and give an apology to Sonia Gandhi. In September 2017, Rane also quit the Congress and formed his party (Maharashtra Swabhiman Paksha). It is now being told that before the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2019, Narayan Rane will merge his own party with the BJP.
