Mumbai: The Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, on Saturday evening asked the BJP, the largest party in the state, to convey his desire and ability to form the government. This has led to the hope of ending the ongoing struggle for forming the government for the last 15 days. BJP leader Chandrakant Patil has told that the core committee meeting of the party will be held on Sunday and a decision will be taken on future steps.

The Shiv Sena has welcomed Koshiyari's move amidst the ongoing tussle with the BJP over government formation. Sources have said that earlier in the day Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbakoni met Governor Koshyari at Raj Bhavan. Significantly, the term of the 13th Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra has ended on Saturday midnight. State BJP President Chandrakant Patil said that we have received a letter from the Governor. Our core committee will decide on the next steps in the meeting on Sunday. According to Raj Bhavan's statement, the governor has asked BJP Legislature Party leader Fadnavis to convey his party's desire and ability to form the government.

The statement said that the Maharashtra assembly elections were held on October 21 and the results were announced on October 24. However, even after 15 days, no party or coalition has come forward to form the government. It further states that since no party has taken the initiative to form the government, the Governor has decided to explore the possibility of the formation of the government on Saturday and the leader of the elected party of the largest party, BJP asked to convey desire and ability.
