Mumbai: Schools in Maharashtra from class 1 to 7 have opened today (15th December). BMC has directed schools in Mumbai to make necessary preparations for the same. The state government had earlier directed to start primary schools from December 1. But it was later closed in view of the threat of new variant Omicron of coronavirus. Omicron the highest number of cases have been reported in Maharashtra. 28 cases have been registered here so far.
Announcing the reopening of schools, Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had earlier said that the government was sensitive to the possibility of a third wave and no laxity would be allowed in the SOP. However, Mumbai Municipal Corporation education officer Raju Tadvi had said on Tuesday that schools will start in Mumbai from tomorrow and parents, students and teachers should not be confused about the school. The education officer says all schools have been instructed to open schools from December 15.
The decision to start primary schools has been entrusted to the local administration in view of the situation in the Omicron. Raju Tadvi, in a press conference on November 30, had directed to start schools from December 15 to Class 1 to 7. Most parents in Mumbai say they have had to shift around due to corona. If schools were to be opened, we should have been informed the day before, but we were not given any notice from the schools.
