Maharashtra violence: Section 144 imposed in Chandrapur, Aurangabad and Satara, 10 BJP leaders arrested

Mumbai: Protests were staged in Tripura to condemn the demolition of temples and attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, which is a neighbouring nation. Meanwhile, rumours circulated that mosques had been set on fire in the area. Violent incidents were reported in Maharashtra areas such as Nanded, Malegaon, and Amravati. The BJP called for a protest bandh in Amravati on Saturday. During the Amravati bandh, there was also violence.

Section 144 has been enforced in Maharashtra's Chandrapur, Satara, and Aurangabad in response to these episodes and the potential for unrest. Section 144, has been imposed in Chandrapur until November 30 and in Satara until November 22. In the meanwhile, all meetings and fronting have been prohibited. Today, a curfew has already been enforced in Akola from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. More than four persons will be unable to congregate here at one location.

Amravati's curfew has also been extended till Saturday. However, necessary items can be obtained for free from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Internet access has also been suspended till today (November 17, Wednesday). It is opposed by the BJP. Ten BJP leaders and members were detained today, including former Minister of State and MLA Praveen Pote.
