New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, former captain of Team India, has achieved another big position. Dhoni has now become the first player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to earn more than Rs 150 crore. With the increase of contract with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, Dhoni received Rs 15 crore as salary and his earnings exceeded Rs 150 crore. His total earnings till the contract was over 137 crores.
It is noteworthy that Mahendra Singh Dhoni was the most expensive player sold in the IPL 2008 auction. That year he was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for 6 crores and also made his captain. After this, his salary remained the same for the next three years. In 2011, the BCCI raised the price of the retention to Rs 8 crore. After this, Dhoni's salary in the IPL between 2011 and 2013 was Rs 8.28 crore.
Before the mega auction of IPL 2014, BCCI once again decided to increase the price of retention prescribed for the players. Due to which Dhoni earned 12.5 crore rupees every year from IPL in 2014 and 2015. Due to the ban on Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni played for Rising Pune Supergiants in both the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons. During this, his salary was 25 crores. Three-time IPL winner Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has earned Rs 60 crore since CSK's return to the league in 2018.
