Thiruvananthapuram:  A temporary wooden bridge erected as part of the Christmas festivities near Neyyattinkara collapsed, leading to multiple injuries. The incident occurred on Monday night during a Christmas display at Puruthivila Bypass Junction by Thirupuram Grama Panchayat.

At approximately 9 pm, the bridge, intended to allow people to access a waterfall and view a nativity scene commemorating Jesus' birth, gave way under the weight of the crowd. Authorities reported that the bridge, designed for limited capacity, couldn't withstand the simultaneous movement of several individuals, causing it to tilt and collapse.

According to the police, over ten individuals sustained injuries and were promptly taken to Neyyattinkara Taluk Hospital and Mims Hospital. Among those injured, two are in serious condition and may require transfer to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

Emergency responders, including police and Fire and Rescue Service personnel, swiftly reached the scene, evacuating the injured to hospitals for medical attention. The makeshift bridge, measuring around five feet above the ground, was constructed specifically for a limited number of people to traverse at any given time. However, the collective weight of the crowd exceeded its capacity, leading to the unfortunate accident.
