It is rare for a newly launched production house to receive the kind of attention Makshika Films is getting. The company, founded by Gaurav Kaushal, will be producing commercial films headlined by big stars and work towards offering the kind of big-canvas stories that the audience has not witnessed before. The first film, to be produced by the company, would be the remake of a popular French and will be helmed by young filmmaker Mihir Lath, who has been Shekhar Kapur’s associate on several international films.

Now, the company has made another major announcement. Makshika Films has signed prolific director Ravindra Gautam for a major motion picture that will feature an A-list actor in the principal role. Apart from helming several popular television serials like ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’, ‘Bandini’ and ‘Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’, among others. Ravindra Gautam has directed the much-acclaimed film ‘Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami’. He was recently given the responsibility of co-directing the second season of the Huma Qureshi starrer web-series ‘Maharani’.

Talking about this association, Gaurav says, “While I wish to produce commercial films with big stars, I plan to work with both new and established directors. I have known Mr. Ravindra Gautam for a very long time and been a huge admirer of his vision as a filmmaker. Very few directors have the kind of command on visuals as he has. I feel truly honoured to work with him and hope we make a great film together.”

Though the details of the film are under wraps at the moment, it is being said to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller. The final draft is being worked upon at the moment and the film will go on the floors sometime this year.

“We want to back anybody who has the vision to make a large-scale commercial film that can please the masses who wish to be entertained in return for the hard-earned money they pay for movie tickets. In the recent past, Bollywood has been accused of making the kind of films that appeal to a niche audience. We will work towards changing that perception by making high-quality commercial films”, he says on a parting note.
