New Delhi: Malaria is one of the world's deadly diseases. Every year millions fall victim to it. The world's leading malaria experts, scientists and economists concluded that the world can be liberated from malaria by 2050. The report published by The Lancet on the eradication of malaria studies the science and financial analyzes of dealing with this epidemic. Since 2000, world malaria cases and mortality have declined by 36 and 60 percent respectively. In 2017, there were 21.9 million cases of malaria in 86 countries, and 4,35,000 people died due to the disease.
At the same time, if you look at the figures of 2000, then it is found that then 26.2 crore cases were reported and 8,39,000 people died. Currently half of the countries in the world are free from malaria. However, 200 million cases of malaria occur each year. Malaria cases are increasing in 55 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The 29 countries (27 from Africa) have reported the highest cases of malaria in the world. These countries account for 85 percent of the deaths in the world.
36 per cent of global malaria cases are reported from only two countries, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo. On the other hand, there are 38 countries where less than 10 malaria cases occur in a population of 1000 and only five percent of malaria deaths occur from these countries. It shows that particularly poor and backward countries in the world are more affected by this disease.
