Mancheri, Malappuram – In an inspiring achievement, Amala Thomas, a 24-year-old native of Koomamkulam, Mancheri, has secured the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship from the European Union. This scholarship, valued at over 40 lakhs, will support Amala in her higher studies in Plant Health in Sustainable Cropping Systems.

Amala’s academic journey will take her to two esteemed institutions in Europe: the Polytechnic University of Valencia in Spain and the University of Göttingen in Germany. Amala's success doesn't stop there; she was also admitted to the Erasmus Mundus Plant Breeding (M Plant) course this year. This dual acceptance into such prestigious programs highlights her academic excellence and dedication to the field of agriculture.

A graduate of Kerala Agricultural University, Amala completed her BSc Honors in Agriculture in June 2022 from the Vellanikkara Campus, Thrissur. Her academic pursuits were complemented by hands-on experience as a Research Assistant at the Department of Entomology at the Mannuthi Agricultural Research Center. She also served as a Farm Officer at the Vellayani Instructional Farm, further honing her expertise in agriculture.

Amala’s achievement is not just a personal milestone but also a proud moment for her parents, Thomas MJ and Joyamma K, and the entire Malayali community. Her dedication and hard work serve as an inspiration for other students, especially those aspiring to excel in the field of sustainable agriculture.

As Amala embarks on this new journey in Europe, her story stands as a testament to the power of perseverance and the opportunities that await those who dare to dream big.
