Johannesburg:  Prior to their forthcoming three-match Test tour of Australia, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Wednesday that Malibongwe Maketa has been named as the men's team's interim head coach.

Maketa, the South African president at the moment Following Mark Boucher's announcement that he would be leaving his position as head coach after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in Australia, a coach and National Academy Lead will oversee the Test squad from December through early January as they get ready to play Australia in their penultimate series of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

The 42-year-old assumes the position after participating in South Africa's Test tour of England, where they suffered a 2-1 series defeat. During the four-day exhibition game against the England Lions and the successful opening Test at Lord's in August, he served as a consultant for the team. In addition, he assisted the Proteas' head coach from 2017 to 2019.

"We are happy to announce Malibongwe as the Proteas' interim coach for their trip to Australia. He is a well-known figure in the community and has previously worked there as an assistant coach " Given the little time left before the tour and the fact that most of the players know Mali well, Cricket South Africa thought that we needed someone who could take over immediately and guide us through a crucial series for the Proteas "I want to wish him luck with his position. In this series, he will undoubtedly make South Africans proud, and he has our utmost support "Enoch Nkwe, the director of cricket, said.

Following two series victories, one loss, and one tie in the second cycle of the two-year event, South Africa is now ranked second on the WTC standings, behind Australia.
