BERLIN: Bayern Munich defeated Inter Milan 2-0 on Tuesday's final matchday of Group C, advancing with a perfect record into the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League for the second time in a row.
Nicolo Barella's long-range attempt, which tested Bayern goalkeeper Sven Ulreich after seven minutes, gave Inter an opportunity to open the scoring on the road.
Inter created a greater danger in front of goal despite Bayern controlling possession despite five changes to the starting lineup, as Lautaro Martinez pulled over from a promising position in the 27th minute.
Benjamin Pavard's nod of Benjamin Kimmich's corner in the 35th minute startled Inter and gave Bayern the lead.
Before halftime, Sadio Mane and Kingsley Coman should have increased the hosts' lead, but they were unable to get past Inter goaltender Andre Onana.
After the break, the Italian team believed they had tied the game, but Francesco Acerbi's header in the 47th minute was called back for offside.
After Eric Maxim Choupo-overhead Moting's kick was deemed offside at the hour mark, Bayern gained momentum as the game went on.
With 72 minutes remaining, Choupo-Moting remained in the heart of things and gave the German powerhouses an unquestionable victory. The in-form striker hammered the ball from 18 metres into the top right corner, marking his seventh goals in six games.
Alphonso Davies missed a three-point opportunity for Bayern two minutes later after pulling slightly wide from close range.
In the last seconds, Inter showed signs of life when Edin Dzeko compelled Ulreich to act.
Bayern Munich achieved their sixth victory in as many Group C games with the outcome.
"Every game should be won by us. To maintain a flawless record in this group is really extraordinary. We have a lot of great players on the bench, so even with all the changes, we can win "Choupo-Moting stated.
In another match, Bayer Leverkusen and Club Brugge drew 0-0 in Group C to secure a spot in the UEFA Europa League.
