New Delhi: Congress Party's National President Mallikarjun Kharge has constituted a three-member committee to find out the reasons for the Gujarat assembly elections defeat. But, many leaders within Congress have started opposing it in a subdued tone. A senior Gujarat Congress leader says that everyone knows the reason for the defeat. We did not fight the elections with full force, that's why we lost. There is no need to constitute any committee in this. As far as the committee is concerned, no action has been taken on the recommendations of any committee set up earlier to look into the reasons for the defeat. In such a situation, this committee will also be of no use.

Let us tell you that the Congress, which has given its most embarrassing performance in the history of Gujarat assembly elections, is now trying to find the reason for the defeat. Kharge has constituted a 3-member committee, which will collect information about the defeat in Gujarat. In fact, before this, even Sonia Gandhi, while the President, has been taking the same measures after the defeat of the party in the elections. But, except once, the report of this committee was never shared with the high command. However, the committee constituted by Kharge has been asked to submit its report within two weeks and also to suggest improvements.

In a statement issued by the party, it has been said that Kharge has appointed former Maharashtra government minister Nitin Raut as the chairman of the committee. Along with this, Shakeel Ahmed Khan of Bihar and MP Saptagiri Ulka have been appointed as members. This committee will submit its report to the party president within two weeks. The party got only 17 seats in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly. While the BJP registered a historic victory by capturing 156 seats.

What does the history of Congress Committees say?

After the defeat in the Lok Sabha in the year 1999, Sonia Gandhi constituted the committee for the first time. The 11-member committee was headed by AK Antony. Apart from this, Mani Shankar Iyer, Motilal Vora, PM Sayeed, and PR Dasmunshi were the members of this committee. It is said that these leaders had suggested changes at the organizational level to the high command, but they were not implemented. After this, AK Antony was given the same responsibility even after the defeat in the 2008, 2012, and 2014 elections.

However, since this time nobody, including top leaders, has heard anything about the reports. In 2021 also, after the defeat of Congress in Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry, a committee was formed to find out the reasons. A senior leader had said that the 2021 panel had presented separate reports for each state. But, even they could not be implemented. Sonia Gandhi did not form any committee after the defeat of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, and Manipur. The committees were not formed because the Gandhi family had a big role in the elections of UP and Punjab and who in Congress could correct their mistakes.
