Kolkata: The state's Minority Affairs Minister has defended the Union Home Ministry's claim that madrasas in West Bengal were used by terrorists. He has said that the West Bengal government has not received any letter from the Union Home Ministry stating anything.

The Home Minister is displaying the wrong picture of the state. Minority Affairs and Madarsa Education Minister Gayasuddin Mullah have said, "This is not correct. There are 614 madrasas in Bengal, which are run by the Left Government."

He said no new seminary has been open for the past several years. At the time of our government, there is not a single new seminary open. Mullah has further said, "We are helping with their books, etc. But when they opposed it, we stopped that too."

The Minority Minister has said, "The Centre or the Home Ministry did not send us any such letter. These are all political issues and they are using them for their own benefit. In the Lok Sabha elections too, he has divided the people of Bengal between Hindus and Muslims."
