Kolkata: The Mamata government in West Bengal has been accused of a major scam. This scam is said to be worth about Rs.2000 crores. In fact, this manipulation has also been done in the money that was meant to build the houses of the poor and victims affected by the cyclone Amphan. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has termed it as a "high-risk fraud". There has also been a demand for an inquiry by the Union Home Ministry.

According to media reports, the rupees were distributed between May 2020 and January 2021. The CAG, in its report sent to the Home Ministry, has said that the West Bengal government did not cooperate in the audit of relief distribution in violation of the orders of the Calcutta High Court. In the same report of the CAG, it has been alleged that the selection of beneficiaries was improper and the money was also not distributed properly. The report has also recommended fixing of accountability after scrutiny of government officials.

According to the CAG, the selection of beneficiaries has also been rigged. There have been about 1,500 cases that have not suffered any damage in the storm, yet the Mamata government paid them Rs 94 lakh. According to a senior official, it is possible to get the payment rigged too. In fact, the CAG has conducted this audit on the orders of the Calcutta High Court. The audit has been conducted from February 2021 to September 2021. Along with Bengal, Orissa and some other coastal areas were also affected by the cyclone Amphan. About 72 people were reported to have died due to winds of 190 kilometres.

Amit Shah had also alleged fraud:-

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had attacked the Mamata government this year over the scam in the aid of Cyclone Amphan. He had said that the Modi government at the Centre had sent Rs 10,000 crore in aid to the Mamata government, but the people of West Bengal did not get anything. Shah had alleged that the money was eaten up by the nephew and company.
