West Bengal: Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and the leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), praised voters for delivering TMC candidates a 'decisive mandate' in both the Ballygunge assembly seat and the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency in the West Bengal by-polls.

Mamata Banerjee said in a tweet: "I sincerely thank the electors of the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for giving AITC party candidates a decisive mandate." "We consider this a loving Shubho Nababarsho gift from our people to our Ma-Mati-Manush organisation. Thank you to the voters for reaffirming their faith in us "she said in multiple tweets.

On Saturday, the results for the Lok Sabha seat in Asansol, West Bengal, and the Assembly seat in Ballygunge, West Bengal, will be announced.  The BJP has nominated Keya Ghosh, while the CPI(M) has nominated Saira Shah Halim for the Assembly by-election. Former Union Minister Shatrughan Sinha has been nominated by the TMC, while Agnimitra Paul from the Asansol constituency has been nominated by the BJP.

Former Union Minister Babul Supriyo resigned as the Lok Sabha MP for Asansol after leaving from the Bharatiya Janata Party, prompting the by-polls (BJP). He then became a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Following the death of state Minister Subrata Mukherjee, a by-election for the Ballygunge Assembly seat was called.

Supriyo defeated TMC candidate Moon Moon Sen by a large majority of 1,97,637 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, garnering 51.56 percent of the total votes cast. Supriyo won by a margin of 70,480 votes in 2014.
