Madhya Pradesh: (Dewas) – According to police officials, a 46-year-old man faked his death and used forged documents to claim Rs one crore in insurance. The accused, Abdul Hanif, was arrested on Sunday, along with a doctor who allegedly faked Hanif's death certificate.

Following a complaint from the insurance company, a case was also filed against Hanif's wife and son, who had applied for the claim. Hanif had purchased a one-crore insurance policy from a company online in September 2019, according to Kotwali police station in-charge Umrao Singh.

His son Iqbal had obtained a death certificate from the local civic body after depositing two monthly instalments, based on documents signed by one Dr Shakir Mansoori, he said. Hanif's wife Rehana applied for a one-crore insurance claim after receiving the certificate. Officials from the insurance company, on the other hand, became suspicious and examined the documents, according to Singh.

In early 2020, the insurance company filed a complaint with the Dewas police department. According to the official, the police launched an investigation and recently discovered Hanif alive.
