Lucknow: Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, vying for an unprecedented ninth term in Parliament, visited polling booths in Sultanpur, her constituency in the sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Gandhi, the incumbent BJP MP from the seat, encouraged voters to turn out in large numbers, expressing confidence in the BJP's victory when results are announced on June 4.

During her visit, Gandhi noted minor issues with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at a few locations. She attributed these glitches to the lack of training among some polling officers and the unfamiliarity of party agents with the process. Despite these challenges, she remained optimistic about the BJP's prospects in the elections.

Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency is witnessing a triangular contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Samajwadi Party (SP), and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Historically, Congress has won the seat eight times, BSP twice, and BJP four times.

Voting is underway on Saturday across 58 parliamentary constituencies spread over six states and two Union Territories (UTs). The sixth phase includes crucial seats from Bihar, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Delhi, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, with a total of 889 candidates in the fray. Vote counting will take place on June 4, determining the outcome of this phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
