Manipur Security Force Seizes Contrabands Worth Rs 86 Lakhs

In Manipur's Tengnoupal district, the Assam rifles thwarted cross-border contraband smuggling in Kulang and Holenphai villages. The Assam Rifles apprehended four cars carrying contraband areca nuts and timbers from over the Indo Myanmar border during a border control operation on Friday. The Assam Rifles seized items worth over Rs 86 lakhs during the raid.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Assam rifles confirmed the same and tweeted, ''ASSAM RIFLES FOILS CROSS BORDER SMUGGLING OF CONTRABANDS. Moreh and Tengnoupal Battalion of #AssamRifles in two separate operations, on 14 Jan, foiled cross border smuggling of contrabands in Kulyang and Holenphai Vill, Tengnoupal Dist and recovered items worth a total Rs 85.64 Lakhs.''

 

 

The recovered timbers and areca nuts were reportedly worth at Rs 50.24 lakhs and Rs 45.32 lakhs, respectively. The materials seized, including cars and drivers, were later turned over to the Tengnoupal district forest department for further action.
