NEW DELHI: in connection with the excise policy scam case, Delhi  Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has moved Supreme Court challenging his arrest by the CBI The plea is likely to be pronounced in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, February 28, seeking an urgent hearing on his plea.

This comes after a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court gave Sisodia a 5-day detention to the CBI until March 4 so they may question him regarding an excise policy matter.

On Monday, the senior AAP leader was brought before the court. The CBI detained Sisodia on Sunday. Leaders and members of the Aam Aadmi Party organised protests on Monday in several states, blaming Sisodia's incarceration on personal grudges and demanding his immediate release.

In New Delhi, some of the workers took to the streets in handcuffs to march against the BJP while others sat on the pavement and chanted slogans. The police were seen shoving the employees back as they attempted to pass the barricades. The party workers were requested to enter the office by the police.

Workers from the AAP demonstrated outside the party's headquarters in the city, chanting "Jail ke taale tutenge, Manish Sisodia chutenge" (Jail locks will be broken, Manish Sisodia will be freed).

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said they have come to be arrested, as the agency has detained Manish Sisodia in a false case. "The Central government wants to arrest every leader, MLA and Minister of the AAP. Hence we, too, have come to PM Modi asking to be arrested.

All of us have come to give our arrest. End our party and put us all in jail. The world should know that there is a dictatorship in India and the situation of Emergency is prevailing," AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said earlier.
In the meantime, the CBI claimed in a statement on Sunday that Sisodia was giving evasive answers and wasn't helping with the continuing investigation into the liquor fraud.

The agency added that Sisodia had been contacted earlier, on February 19, in relation to the ongoing investigation, but had asked for an extension due to the Delhi Budget. "On February 19, 2023, the Deputy CM received a notice under section 41A of the CrPC for participating in the probe. Nonetheless, he requested a week's worth of time, claiming his preoccupation "indicated by the CBI.

In a statement following his detention, the CBI stated: "Despite being presented with evidence to the contrary, he offered evasive answers and refused to assist in the inquiry. He was therefore taken into custody."
