Mumbai: In its manifesto for Maharashtra Assembly elections 2019, BJP has promised to get Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar. Congress seems to be stuck on this issue. First the Congress protested against the Bharat Ratna to Veer Savarkar, then on Thursday, former PM Manmohan Singh told the press people in Mumbai that a postage stamp was issued for Veer Savarkar during the Congress rule.

Although Manmohan Singh also said that he is not against Veer Savarkar, but the ideology of Hindutva which he supported Congress is not in favor of that. Earlier on Tuesday, the Congress had questioned the BJP's demand to give Bharat Ratna to Hindu Mahasabha founder Vinayak Damodar Savarkar ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari had said, 'I am surprised that on one hand the BJP is praising Mahatma Gandhi and on the other hand is demanding Bharat Ratna for Savarkar. In a country where Mahatma Gandhi's murder is being termed as suicide, anything can be possible there. However, seriously, Savarkar was charged with the murder of Mahatma, but it is true that he was acquitted.
