2.5 lakh gram panchayats of the country will be connected to the internet by 2018. Communication Minister Manoj Sinha said this in a statement in his statement. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Manoj Sinha said that under the BharatNet project, 100Mbps broadband connectivity will be provided to all village panchayats in the country.
Under this scheme, one lakh villages will be connected to the internet in the first phase. The goal is expected to be completed by March 2017. During the Question Hour, all village panchayats will be connected to the Internet by December 2018.
Manoj Sinha further said that Wi-Fi hot spots will also be made in village panchayats. Approval has also been given in this regard on behalf of the Ministry. Under this scheme, two Wi-Fi hotspots will be made in every village panchayat.
Sinha further said that the government has examined the delay in the scheme and is now trying to remove the loopholes. The Navbharat Project works under the Universal Service Obligation Fund. In this scheme, there is a plan to connect those villages with the Internet, where Left extremism has much effect. 8,621 villages in the North Western states will be connected to the Internet connectivity.
