Jammu: Former Central Minister and senior BJP leader Manoj Sinha was appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of the state. The Presidents Secretariat has said in a release that the resignation of the state's Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu has been approved. Murmu, who has commanded the state for nearly nine months, will be the Comptroller and Auditor General of the country. He has resigned on the first anniversary of the removal of Article 370.
Late Wednesday evening, the discussion of the sudden resignation of the Lieutenant Governor started. He did government work all day. Presided over the meeting of the Administrative Council and in the evening, the matter of his resignation came to the fore. The matter of his removal was also in the news on social media, but then the Center defended him. Murmu, a 1985 batch IAS officer, was the chief secretary of Gujarat's former CM Narendra Modi. Murmu will go to New Delhi in the morning.
Recently, Murmu had given an interview to a newspaper, in which he talked about not having any problem in restoring 4G services and also to conduct assembly elections soon. The Election Commission had expressed its discomfort about this, in which it was said that the work of conducting elections is with the Commission and not the Deputy Governor. The central government also said in the Supreme Court that it would investigate Murmu's statements on 4G. With this, the command of Lt. Governor is now in the hands of Manoj Sinha.
