NEW DELHI: Educationist Manoj Soni has taken oath as the chairman of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday, an official said. Smita Nagaraj, a senior member of the Commission, administered the oath.

On June 28, 2017, Soni became a member of the Commission. On April 5, 2022, Soni was appointed, in accordance with Article 316(A) of the Indian Constitution, to the position of Chairman, UPSC. Soni completed a doctorate in "Post-Cold War International Systemic Transition and Indo-US Relations" at Sardar Patel University before to joining UPSC. Soni also studied political science with a focus on international relations studies.

He held the positions of vice chancellor for three years, including one at the M.S. University of Baroda and two at the Gujarat-based Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University. Soni was India's youngest vice chancellor in the country's history of independence. He has received numerous accolades and honours, and his work has been widely published. 
An acclaimed scholar of political science with specialisation in international relations studies, Manoj Soni  has taught international relations at Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar between 1991 and 2016, except for the period when he served as Vice-Chancellor of the multiple universities.

Manoj Soni  has earned several awards and recognitions. In 2013, he was conferred with the rare honour of "Honorary Mayor-President of the City of Baton Rouge" by the Mayor-President of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA, for his exemplary leadership in empowering disadvantaged section of society with Information Technology literacy.
Manoj Soni was also a member of a quasi-judicial body constituted by an Act of the Gujarat Legislature, which regulates the fee structure of the un-aided professional intuitions in Gujarat.

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, London, UK, honoured Manoj Soni  in the year 2015  with the World Education Congress Global Award for Distance Learning Leadership.
