New Delhi: Hours after quitting from the Congress, Punjab leader Manpreet Singh Badal on Wednesday. joined the BJP in the presence of Union minister Piyush Goel and BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh.

Earlier on Wednesday, Manpreet Singh Badal announced his resignation from the Congress party's primary membership, alleging that the Congress' Punjab branch encouraged "factionalism."

Manpreet Badal, a nephew of SAD founder Parkash Singh Badal, won the Gidderbaha bye-election in 1995 to launch his political career.

This is Manpreet's fourth political party in his nearly three-decade political career. He disagreed with Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the leader of the Punjab Congress.

Manpreet Badal while addressing the media said,  "I came to the BJP office, you made me sit on your eyes, not on your hands". I recently encountered a tiger who claimed to be the HM of India, and he revealed to me that Punjab had seen 400 attacks. I was moved by his promise to "do everything for Punjab," as I am constantly worried about Punjab and its future."

Manpreet Badal said in a letter to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi that a group of men in Delhi are in charge of affairs in Punjab, and that this has only fueled factionalism. 

The BJP frequently surprises the Congress party in Punjab. About a dozen Congressmen, including Sunil Jakhar and Captain Amarinder Singh, had switched to the BJP. Manpreet Badal's resignation from the Congress has now dealt another severe blow.
