Havana: Cuba President Miguel Diaz Canal has appointed the Prime Minister in the country after more than 40 years. He made Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz the Prime Minister. The post of Prime Minister was abolished in 1976 by the revolutionary leader Fidel Castro. It has been restored under the rules of the new constitution passed this year in the communist-ruled island.

At present, the 66-year-old Marrero will hold some of the responsibilities that fall under the President's jurisdiction. Local media reports quoted the official online news outlet Qubadibet on Sunday as saying, "The head of the government will be the administrative right hand of the President of the Republic." However, critics have described any such change as purely cosmetic because the Cuban Communist Party and the military are the only two decision-making bodies in the country.
