New Delhi: Preparations have begun to crackdown on social media companies over data leaks. The Joint Parliamentary Committee report on the Personal Data Protection Bill is scheduled to be tabled in the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha on Thursday. The Parliamentary Committee is going to appeal a number of provisions in the law to prevent data leaks. Under which it has been said that if there is a data breach, that is, if the data is leaked, then a fine of up to 15 crores is going to be imposed on the companies. Or else 4% of the turnover is going to be charged from the company as a fine. Companies are going to have to pay Rs 5 crore or 2 percent of global turnover for small violations.

If these provisions are incorporated into the government law, companies like Facebook, Instagram, Google, and Amazon need to be very cautious about data in India. The Personal Data Protection Bill contains all the provisions of 2019. It has also been developed under the European Union General Data Protection Regulation.

The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha 2 years ago by former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on December 11, 2019. Is to be sent to the Standing Committee on December 16. The committee's report was submitted to the Lok Sabha by its chairman PP Chaudhary. The company must disclose the violation within 72 hours over the data leak. The Data Promotion Authority (DPA) will then take into account the severity of personal data violations and damages for individuals whose data may be leaked. If a company is violating provisions for processing personal data or children's data or transferring data outside India against prescribed rules, it is going to be fined up to Rs 15 crore or 4 percent of the total worldwide turnover of the previous financial year.

Where it has been revealed that the report submitted by the committee is going to be debated soon. If passed, the law is prioritizing the protection of both personal and non-personal data. To appoint a scheduling officer for the purpose of deciding penalties and compensation to be imposed under the provisions of this law. Also, establish an appellate tribunal to listen to and settle any demand. Provision of penalty and penalty for violation of the provisions of the proposed law.
