New Delhi: The Supreme Court has reprimanded the Kerala government for illegal construction in coastal areas. The apex court said that it would fix responsibility on the officials involved in such constructions. The court is shocked to learn about the construction of illegal buildings in the coastal areas. A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said it would pass a detailed order on the issue on Friday. The court told the Chief Secretary of the state, "Do you know how many people have died due to floods and environmental destruction? You are playing with nature".
"How many houses have you built for the victims, still illegal construction continues in coastal areas". The court has asked the Chief Secretary to conduct a survey to assess the devastation caused to it by nature. It may be noted that the Supreme Court had earlier asked the state government to submit a compliance report by September 20, that on September 23, the chief secretary would have to appear before the court. The top court has ordered the demolition of five large residential buildings located in Ernakulam district of Kerala. These buildings are accused of not complying with the rules related to the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ).
