Dantewada: Naxalites have also shown their faith in democracy by voting in the by-election in Dantewada assembly seat of Chhattisgarh. It is to be known that on September 23, a vote was held on the vacant seat after the murder of BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi by the Naxals. His wife is standing on this seat as a BJP candidate.
The surrendered Naxalites joined the parade on 15 August and saluted the tricolour, while now voting on September 23 during the assembly by-election in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh, helped to strengthen democracy. Two such voters along with other villagers arrived at the district Gumiyapal polling station on Monday. Those who have surrendered about 48 hours ago. They both voted and said they had boycotted voting before. At that time we were not informed about the power of democracy and we were told that we are slaves.
The surrendered Naxalites said that they understood what freedom and democracy are. Today the experience of voting with family was different, it is difficult to tell. Village Gumiyapal of Kirandul police station area was very much discussed recently. Six villagers here were abducted by Naxalites in the past. He was released after about two weeks. Naxalite leader Muiya was killed in a close encounter near this village. Let me tell you that there have been several encounters between security forces and Naxals in the past. Naxalites have also been killed in large numbers.
