Maharashtra: The Maratha protest over their demand for quota reservation in education and jobs took a violent and aggressive turn on Tuesday evening as a number of hostile demonstrations took place at various areas. Activists are prompting the authorities to call for a shut down in Maharashtra and the nearby areas on today.
According to reports the Bandh will be seen in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Satara, Palghar and Nashik.
On day 2 of Maratha Reservation protests, Workers of Maratha Kranti Morcha forcibly shut shops on Thane 's Gokhale road.
It is noted that The effect of shutdown shall not be seen on Mumbai local train services, schools and colleges.
Worth mention here The Marathas have been protesting over the demand of 16% reservation in government jobs and educational institutions.
Maratha Kranti Morcha is spearheading the protest and is taking its encounter to Mumbai where it has called for the shutdown. Another group, the Sakal Maratha Samaj is also dynamically participating in the remonstration.
The opposition party Congress criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for the Maratha reservation protest taking a violent turn and demanded his resignation.
Senior Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil of the Congress blamed the state government of ignoring the demands of the community when it was taking out "silent" morchas cross the state to force down for its demands.
Meanwhile CM Fadnavis had lashed out at protesters, saying such steps are a shame for a "progressive" state like Maharashtra.
