Market Closing: Sensex closes flat, Nifty settles above 15,800

Swing between gains and losses, benchmark indices ended flat dragged by the auto, IT, metal and pharma names. At the closing bell, the Sensex was down 19 points at 52861.18, while the broader Nifty Nifty fell almost 100 points from day’s high and was down 16.10 points at 15818.30, snapping 2-day gain. Broader markets also fell by a tad while Nifty Bank ended on a positive note, gaining over 1 percent.

UltraTech Cement, Shree Cements, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were among the top gainers on the Nifty. ON the other hand, Top losers were Tata Motors, Gland Pharma, Tech Mahindra, TCS and Coal India.

Among Nifty sectoral indices, towards the close of the trading session only Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Media, Nifty and Nifty financial services traded in the green. In contrast, auto index saw the most weakness followed by IT, pharma, PSU Bank, FMCG. BSE midcap index ended marginally higher, while smallcap index fell 0.26 percent.

Shares of Tata Motors hit 10 percent lower today after Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) said that the global scarcity of semiconductor chips shall result in a 50 percent falls in the production for JLR in September quarter.
