New Delhi: Col Santosh Babu, who received the martyred in last year's clash against China in the Galwan Valley of Ladakh, will be awarded Mahavir chakra this year. As the Gallantry Awards are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day, the award can be given posthumously to Col. Santosh Babu this year.
Mahavir Chakra is the greatest honour in the army after Param Veer Chakra. According to government sources, several soldiers who fought the Chinese army in a clash in the Galwan Valley could be awarded the Gallantry Award this time. The Indian Army has recommended to honour the soldiers who have joined several operations from line of mutual control (LAC) to Line of Control (LoC) this time.
On this special occasion of Republic Day, an effort is being made to honour the soldiers of the country and raise their bogey. ASI Mohan Lal, who received martyred in Pulwama terror attack this time, will also be honoured with the Gallantry Award this year. Mohan Lal identified the car fitted with the IED, firing at the bomber. India's confrontation with China has been continuing in Ladakh since April 2020. In the month of June, the tension took the form of melee, violence. In June, about 20 Indian Army soldiers were martyred in violence in The Galwan Valley of Ladakh.
