Puducherry      Public Works Department (PWD) Minister A Namassivayam, the second in command in the Congress-DMK government headed by V Narayanasamy resigned from the Cabinet on Monday.

In his resignation letter submitted to Assembly Speaker V P Sivakolunthu, Mr Namassivayam said that he was elected from Villinaur Assembly Constituency on the Congress ticket in 2016 and is resigning his Legislative Assembly Member post today.

Following Mr Namassivayam, Congress legislator from Ossudu constituency E. Theepainthan also resigned his post. Mr Theepainthan also submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker stating that he is resigning his MLA post with effect from January 25.

The  PWD minister Namassivayam last night held a meeting with his supporters at a marriage Hall in his constituency at Villianur to hear out the views of his political supporters before he makes the move. This meeting is seen as a prelude to taking the major decision.

Yesterday, he had told before media in such a way: "I am discussing about my future political plight". However, he said that no decision on his quitting Congress and joining BJP has been taken. " Political decisions will be taken as per the prevailing political situation", said Namassivayam.

The ruling Congress may suffer a set back with PWD minister’s quit.
