Not right time to seek GST rate cut on automobiles: RC Bhargava

After the fall due to the lockdown, the domestic automobile sector has been demanding to increase the GST rate of 28 per cent on cars to 18 per cent, so that sales can be increased. But RC Bhargava, chairman of the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India, has said not to reduce rates while talking to the contrary. However, before this, Maruti has also been demanding a reduction in GST rates.

Regarding the matter, Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava said that this is not the right time to reduce the rate of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on vehicles. Also, nothing is going to benefit from this because the production of the automobile industry is currently at the lowest level. During a video conference, Bhargava said that the production of all automobile manufacturers is going to be very low for at least the next month or two in the current time. In such a time GST deduction will not make any sense.

For your information, let us tell you that in the meeting with the center of auto sector veterans, many suggestions were made to revive the sector, the most important was that the GST rates on vehicles should be cut. Bhargava was also involved in this meeting. He said that the reduction in GST rates will be beneficial when production is at its peak and there will be more supply than demand. Then we will need it. But the industry does not need it immediately.
