The lockdown to prevent the spread of pandemic coronavirus has greatly affected the sales of carmakers across the country. Meanwhile, the country's No. 1 carmaker Maruti Suzuki has reported the May 2020 sales. The company has sold 13,865 units in the last month i.e. May 2020, which is a big decline year after year. The company registered a decline of 88.95 per cent as compared to 1,25,552 units sold in the month of May last year.

For your information, let us tell you that in this month, the company has also exported 4651 units from Mundra and Mumbai ports. Maruti's total sales (including exports) stood at 18,539 units in May 2020, which is 86.23 per cent lower than the 1,34,643 units sold in May 2019. These sales figures also include 23 units of the Glanza hatchback sold to Toyota.

The sale operation was closed from April 2020 due to the lockdown in the country and there were no sales in the domestic market in April. Even in March 2020, sales of Maruti Suzuki fell by 47 percent with 83,792 units. Maruti Suzuki resumed production at the Manesar plant from May 12 and the Gurugram plant from May 18, after the government gave relief to the lockdown. At the same, work started in the (SMG) plant, where cars are manufactured on contract basis of Maruti Suzuki. Simultaneously, Maruti Suzuki resumed its dealerships and service centers across the country, following approval from the central government and local administration, following all safety regulations and following social distancing.
