Ranchi: In Ranchi, a room filled with cash has become the center of attention as at least six cash counting machines tirelessly work to assess the mountain of money discovered during a raid related to a money laundering case. Sources indicate that approximately ₹30 crore has been counted in the last 12 hours. However, due to the enormity of the cash pile, the final count is still underway, with multiple counting machines breaking down during the process.

The room where the massive amount of cash was found belongs to Jahangir, who works as a house help for Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister and Congress leader Alamgir Alam. The Enforcement Directorate uncovered the cash during raids conducted at several locations linked to Virendra Ram, the former chief engineer at the Jharkhand Rural Development Department. Ram was arrested last year in connection with a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of government schemes.

The timing of this discovery, just days before the Lok Sabha elections in Jharkhand, has sparked a political uproar. The BJP has drawn attention to the connection between the Congress minister and the massive cash haul, accusing the opposition party of corruption. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently campaigning in Odisha, referred to the cash discovery, questioning whether the government should not act against such misappropriations of public funds.

Jharkhand BJP chief Babulal Marandi raised concerns about the extent of corruption, asking what might be found in the homes of other ministers if such a substantial amount was recovered from the house of a minister's secretary. He demanded the removal of Alamgir Alam from his ministerial position. Kalpana Soren, the wife of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has entered active politics following her husband's arrest in a money laundering case.

In response to the allegations, Alamgir Alam urged everyone to wait for the completion of the Enforcement Directorate's investigation before jumping to conclusions. He clarified that Sanjiv Lal, his personal secretary, had previously served under two former ministers. Alam emphasized that personal secretaries are usually appointed based on their experience, and it would be premature to comment on the raids before the ED concludes its investigation.
