Ranchi: In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a series of raids in Ranchi, Jharkhand's capital, uncovering a staggering Rs. 25 crore in unaccounted cash. These operations, conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), targeted several locations associated with Virendra Ram, a former chief engineer at the Jharkhand Rural Development Department, and his close associates.

Virendra Ram had been apprehended by the ED back in February 2023 for his involvement in a money laundering case.

The probe agency simultaneously conducted raids at nine locations, including Sail City in Ranchi.

Footage from the raid depicts a room inundated with stacks of currency notes, allegedly belonging to the domestic staff member of Sanjiv Lal, the personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. Alamgir Alam, aged 70, is a Congress leader representing the Pakur seat in the Jharkhand assembly.

Reacting to the development, Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdev expressed concern over the persistent corruption in the state. "The influx of such funds during elections suggests intentions to manipulate the democratic process. The Election Commission must intervene," Shahdev emphasized.
