Kanpur: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Saturday hit out at the state government over the violence and stone-pelting incident in Kanpur and demanded action against the culprits "rising above caste, religion and party politics". In a tweet, Mayawati wrote, "The outbreak of riots and violence in Kanpur during the visit of president and prime minister to the state is very sad, unfortunate and worrisome and is a sign of the failure of the police intelligence machinery. The government has to understand how it is possible to invest and develop the state in the absence of peace and order?

Former CM Mayawati further said, "The government should rise above religion, caste and party politics and conduct a free and fair and high-level inquiry into the incident and take strict legal action against the culprits so that such an incident does not continue." Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo  Mayawati also urged the people to avoid inflammatory speeches etc. to maintain peace and law and order. In fact, there were also bullets fired during this time.
