New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking a stay on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. The election will be held on December 4. The apex court has rejected the petition seeking a stay. The petition filed in the Supreme Court had sought a stay on the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. Today, the apex court has dismissed the petition clarifying its stand on the matter. So the MCD elections will be held on the 4th of December only.  

Following the Delhi High Court order, the petitioners appealed for a stay in the apex court. The Delhi High Court, while hearing a petition filed by advocate Sanjay Sharma, had in November ordered that the municipal elections scheduled for December 4 cannot be stayed. Once the elections are notified by the authorities, they cannot be stopped.  

Since then, advocate Sanjay Sharma had filed a petition in the apex court. With the Supreme Court dismissing the petition, the MCD election will be held on the 4th of December only. Advocate Sanjay Sharma had said in the petition that the delimitation of wards has not been done as per the rules. He had demanded a stay on the election.
