MIAMI: Daniil Medvedev, who was competing in his sixth ATP Tour final in as many competitions, kept up his impressive form to win the Miami Open by defeating Italian Jannik Sinner, 7-5, 6-3, in 1 hour and 34 minutes.

In the five finals he had played in this season, Medvedev had won four championships. He won the championship in Rotterdam, Doha, and Dubai as far this season before making it to the Indian Wells final in his last match before Miami, when he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. He currently leads the ATP in terms of titles won this season after winning his fourth title on Sunday night.

The fourth seed was unflappable against Sinner, frustrating the Italian with his thoughtful baseline game after losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final two weeks prior. Since defeating Sinner in the Rotterdam final in February, Medvedev is now 6-0 versus Sinner in their ATP Head-to-Head matchup.

With the win, Medvedev now has a 600-point advantage over Novak Djokovic in the ATP Live Race to Torino, giving him the upper hand in the competition for the No. 1 ranking at the conclusion of the year. On Monday, he will rise to No. 4 in the ATP Rankings as well.

Medvedev, 27, became the first man to reach back-to-back ATP Masters 1000 finals since Djokovic in 2020 by winning both the Indian Wells and Miami finals this year. His 29 victories this year are the most on the ATP Tour.
