Jai Ram Thakur was born into a deprived agricultural family in Mandi district in 1965. As his family struggled to survive for daily bread and butter, Thakur was at all times encouraged to study.  Thakur is an academically brilliant student, who pursued MA from Panjab University in Chandigarh.

The 52-year-old and five times MLA from BJP has close relations to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Jai Ram Thakur, the 14th chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, is Karnataka's son-in-law.

Thakur is a Rajput leader and five-time MLA from Seraj constituency, who is married with Dr Sadhana Thakur from Shivamogga.

Sadhana's parents moved to Jaipur in Rajasthan when she was in her early age. Before marriage she was known as Sadhana Rao, and studied medicine at SMS Medical College in Jaipur in the1980s.

Jai Ram's becoming chief minister means that this small hill state has a third epicenter of politics called Mandi, a district which had more or less a Congress iron grip and used to typically parallel support with Shimla, which circuitously meant Virbhadra or Congress. 

After huge hullabaloo made by ‘Dhoomal’ supporters Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jairam Thakur is all set to swear-in as the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the galaxy of BJP leaders like Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah, former deputy Prime Minister LK Advani and a number of Union ministers and chief ministers are likely to present at Jai Ram Thakur’s swearing-in ceremony at the momentous Ridge Maidan in Shimla at 11 AM.

 

Governor Aacharya Devvrat will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Thakur.

 

Thakur is The five-time BJP MLA from Seraj constituency of the hilly state and he is elected to show the way to the state as a CM following the party's chief ministerial nominee Prem Kumar Dhumal failed to mark a triumph from his constituency. As per the report, Along with Thakur, a few MLA will reportedly swear-in as Cabinet Ministers tomorrow.

 

The BJP has overthrown the Congress from power in Himachal Pradesh by registering a win with the full majority to grab 44 out of the 68 seats in the freshly concluded Assembly polls.

 

Apart from many higher-ranking leaders and workers of BJP state unit, thousands of people are likely to witness the swearing-in ceremony. This is the first time in the history of the Hilly state when Prime Minister will attend a CM swear-in ceremony.

Substantial security and other arrangements have been deployed ahead of the gala function. Besides seating arrangements, eight to ten LED screens have been installed outside the venue. SPG will stare after the security arrangements.
