NEW DELHI: In preparation for the much-awaited G-20 Summit set to take place on September 9 and 10 at the newly inaugurated Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, the Delhi Police Metro unit has taken stringent security measures. The Chief Security Commissioner has ordered the closure of select metro station gates along VVIP routes from September 8 to 10.

As part of these security measures, the Delhi Police have identified specific areas, including the Supreme Court, Bhikaji Cama Place, Khan Market, Dhaula Kuan, and Janpath, as 'sensitive.' Consequently, the nearest metro stations to these areas will be completely closed during the summit.

In an effort to ensure public safety and convenience during the G-20 Summit, the Delhi Police had previously issued a traffic advisory in the National Capital Region (NCR) to regulate vehicle movement.

In another development related to the summit, the Delhi Metro is gearing up to cater to tourists by offering special tourist smart cards. These cards will be available for purchase at 36 metro stations from September 4 to 13, coinciding with the event. While these tourist smart cards are typically available year-round, dedicated counters have been established for a 10-day period starting Monday.

The 36 metro stations where these tourist smart cards can be obtained include Kashmere Gate, Indraprastha, Chandni Chowk, South Extension, Sarojini Nagar, Chawri Bazar, Chhatarpur, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, Supreme Court, ITO, Hauz Khas, Nehru Place, Kalkaji Mandir, Akshardham, Terminal 1 IGI Airport, and Karol Bagh.

The tourist smart cards come in two variants: a one-day validity card priced at Rs. 200 and a three-day validity card priced at Rs. 500. Additionally, both options include a refundable deposit of Rs. 50.

These cards grant travelers unlimited rides on the Delhi Metro, providing an affordable and convenient means of transportation during their visit to the city.
