SAN FRANCISCO: In a recent round of job cuts, Microsoft has taken the decision to lay off 276 employees, primarily from customer service, support, and sales teams.

These fresh job cuts extend beyond the previously announced global layoffs of 10,000 by Microsoft on January 18, according to Geek Wire.

Microsoft has downsized its workforce in Washington State, affecting 210 individuals in its Bellevue and Redmond offices, along with 66 virtual staffers, as per the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN).

A Microsoft spokesperson stated, "Organizational and workforce adjustments are an integral and routine part of our business management."

Furthermore, the spokesperson added, "We will consistently prioritize and invest in strategic growth areas for the future, while providing unwavering support to our valued customers and partners."

Prominent posts on LinkedIn, the leading professional networking platform, disclosed that the job cuts specifically targeted customer support and sales roles across various teams.

Earlier in May, Microsoft reduced its workforce in Washington State by 158 positions, separate from the previously mentioned 10,000 layoffs.

Reports indicate that the layoffs announced earlier this year affected over 2,700 workers in the Seattle area. In January, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella had announced plans to "implement changes resulting in a 10,000-job reduction in our overall workforce by the end of FY23 Q3 (third quarter)."

During the earlier part of this year, the tech giant employed over 220,000 individuals, as reported.
