THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In order to increase milk output, the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU) of Milma has agreed to set aside Rs. 4.50 crore for the adoption of 3,500 calves by interested farmers.
In the TRCMPU-administered districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta, 3500 calves will be adopted this fiscal year.
Farmers who adopt calves will receive discounted cattle feed as well as other support services up until the first calf is born. This year, farmers who adopt calves will get specially formulated "Calf Growth Meal."
Along with aiming to increase milk procurement to 5 lakh litres per day by 2025, TRCMPU has also developed a number of innovative programmes.
The launch of mobile veterinary clinics to supplement livestock veterinary care facilities is one of the other TRCMPU projects. Mobile application technology will also be used to carry out this programme.
To increase artificial insemination in the area, steps have also been taken to establish 40 insemination centres.
Up to 100 fertility clinics will open, and farmers will receive silage at discounted prices.
