Kolkata: Reports of soil mafia ambushing police and attacking them with weapons in West Bengal's Hooghly district are coming to light, in which six policemen have been injured. The attack on the police was carried out by the soil mafia at Gokulpur in the Chanditala area. According to information, the policemen were also stabbed with iron rods.

According to the report, the attack was carried out under the leadership of the local soil mafia Sheikh Samsuddin. Giving details about the incident, the Superintendent of Police of Hooghly Rural Police Amandeep said that a police team was attacked by miscreants at Gokulpur under the Chanditala police station area. He said that the soil mafia was illegally carrying clay stones etc. in trucks by illegal mining. The police reached the spot and started checking the documents. All the documents with the accused were found to be illegal. 

He further said that by the time the police force could understand something about the incident, they were ambushed by the mafias. Six policemen were injured in the attack. On being informed about the incident, a large number of police from Chanditala police station reached the spot and took action against the accused and arrested 10 people. Police are conducting a search operation to nab the remaining accused.
