The Union Health Ministry expressed grave concern on Friday about the country's dropping mask usage patterns, even in the face of the Omicron threat, citing a recent survey that showed that mask usage has decreased dramatically since September.

"In India, the use of masks is on the decline. We must keep in mind the importance of both vaccines and masks. We are currently operating at an unsafe and unacceptable level in terms of protective capability. We should take note of the current global situation "Dr. V.K. Paul, Member-Health, NITI Aayog, remarked. He stated that the World Health Organization has warned about the fall in mask wear on numerous occasions.

He said,  the worldwide scene of Omicron is upsetting, and the protocol against Omicron is the same as the other versions, which is to follow the Covid Appropriate Behavior. On the topic of paediatric vaccines, he stated that the NTAGI has yet to make a recommendation.

Dr. Balram Bhargava, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research, stated that the novel Covid variant Omicron is not posing any clinical risk to the healthcare system at this time, but that vigilance is required. "Regular meetings are held to maintain an eye on the worldwide situation, with a particular focus on Omicron. We require assistance in order to avoid spreading panic "he stated.
