New Delhi: Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Nurul Islam Sujon officially launch the 'Mitali Express'  train between New Jalpaiguri and Dhaka on Wednesday, through video conferencing.

This train will be India's third passenger train service to Bangladesh. The 13132 New Jalpaiguri-Dhaka Cantonment train will run twice a week, on Sundays and Wednesdays. Every Monday and Thursday, train no 13131, Dhaka Cantonment-New Jalpaiguri, Mitali Express, would operate back to Dhaka. The train will take nine hours to pass 513 kilometres between New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, and Dhaka Cantonment, Bangladesh.

Currently, the train will be carried by a diesel locomotive and will consist of four air-conditioned cabin coaches and four air-conditioned chair cars. According to Suvendhu Kumar Chaudhury, DRM of the Northeast Frontier Railway's Katihar division, "We are ready to begin services, and the train is equipped to the maximum facilities. For the first trip, about 15-20 travellers have already purchased tickets." There is no pantry-car service, thus it is a straight service."

On the platform, we have also installed a number of CCTV cameras, and our Railway Protection Force (RPF) employees will be stationed on every corner. The train will be taken by the Border Security Force (BSF) at Haldibari station and handed over to Bangladesh at the Zero line "He said.
